My Trip to Trier
Yesterday, I went to Trier. my family and I walked through a large gate to find bunches of
shops, restaurants, ice cream shops, and bakeries. We walked down many streets to the town square. We
had our Rick Steve's Germany book to guide us. I found out that Trier was the capital of 1 of the 4
quadrants of the Roman Empire. We walked through many cathedrals, or churches. We stopped at a park
for my 5 younger siblings to play at. We ate at the bakery. It was real tasty. On the way out we had ice cream. It had been a real fun, exciting, and tiring trip.

My first scout camp
Last week I had my first scout camp. It was the most awesome week ever. We had our scout camp at Camp Freedom, which is a couple hours away in Germany.
I completed four merit badges: Wilderness Survival, Environmental Science(eagle required), Emergency Preparedness (eagle required) and Pioneering. I’ve almost completed Orienteering – I just have to lead two orienteering courses.
Day One: We got there on Monday instead of Sunday, like all the other troops, so we didn’t their good tents and had to use our own. I missed the first day of Environmental Science because we had to set up our tents.
Monday was the only night I showered. The rest of the nights I was way too tired.
That night it rained and rained and we had rivers in our tents. Some of the scouts slept in vans but I’m proud to say I didn’t.
Day two: (Tuesday) I went to all my classes and that night I learned such an awesome game. It’s called Kubb. It’s a Swedish game. There are five cubes on each persons’ side. The other player has to knock all of them over and then the tall King which is in the middle. But it they knock down the King before the cubes then they lose. That first night I played I was very bad. But by the end I became the best… well, that’s what everybody else said.
Everyday we had to make a motto for flag ceremonies – which were before breakfast and before dinner. That day we thought of the motto: “throw a tarp on it” because that was what we had been doing because of the rain.
Day Three: (Wednesday) We share a campsite with Troop 177 so we combined our tarps to make a big shelter with a big table to eat at and a clothes rack for clothes to dry off on. That day we made our own lunch and dinner, instead of going to the dinning hall. For lunch we made Chili and we entered it into the Chili contest and won ‘tastiest chili’. It was REALLY good. For dinner we ate sloppy Joes. They were good too. It was really fun to use my own camping ‘squishy bowls’ that I got for my birthday. After dinner we went over to show some of the leaders our skits to see if we could perform them on the last night. Our first skit was a failure because it involved ‘farting’… so then we made a new one about a ship which was WAY better.
Day Four: (Thursday) We made our own breakfast. I was the cook for that morning. I helped make ham and cheese English muffins. They were pretty good. There was also cereal and grapes. I love grapes. (After my scout camp everyone said I ate a lot.) That night, my Wilderness Survival Class and I walked for awhile to a place where we would set up a shelter and sleep in it for the night. I was in a group with Talbert ( a great new deacon from our ward) and a kid that no one else wanted to be partners with so we took him in. We tied a string between two trees and “threw a tarp on it”. That motto was turning into a big scout troop joke. We put our sleeping bags on a tarp on the ground under the tarp on the rope. We slept very well and we were woken up early to take down our shelters and go back in time for breakfast.
Day Five: (Friday) We had no classes on Friday except for doing the ones that we missed on Monday. We played Kubb most of the day. The campfire with the entire group of scouts might have been the best part of the whole week because we all got to do our skits. There was a funny Batman skit and another one called Gates to Heaven but I have to say that the best two skits were the ones that our troop did. One was called ‘Can of Beans’ with directors and actors and in every scene one actor says: “Hey, dude want some beans?” and the second actor says “thanks, man, I’m really hungry”. Then he drinks them and the first actor says: “oh, wait! Those were the bad beans!!” Then the second actors falls to the ground. Then the first actor calls the doctor and says “Is he dead?” The Doctor checks and then says, “Yep, he’s dead.” Then the first actor says “NOOOOO!” Then the director asked the actors to act in a different style. It was SOOO funny. The styles were normal, soap opera, world war II, kung fu, Shakespeare and scouting. In the scouting scene the second actor refuses the beans and they ask the scout master if he wanted them. He drinks it and both of the other actors say “oh, wait, those were the bad beans!” Then the scout leader falls to the ground. The first actor says, “What did we learn in scouting? First step, check if they’re dead. Then the other one checks and says, “He’s dead.” Then the actors say, “What should we do man?” The first actor suggests “throw a tarp on it?” and the other one agrees… “Ya, throw a tarp on it!” Our troop did another one that was totally funny too. Everyone was laughing so hard for both of our troops skits.
Day Six: (Saturday) We woke up, packed up and left.
My backpack inside my tent.
My sleeping bag and stuff inside the tent.
Our camping site. (Notice the tarps thrown over the tents.)
The American and German flags.
Those are all the staff. They were really fun. In the mornings the staff would say some ‘words of wisdom’. Every time they did the whole group of them would say “Ooooo, Aaaaaah, Wisdom.” We added that to one of our skits.
This is Mose and me folding tents for our service project.
This is our pioneering project we had to do for Pioneering.
This is me leading an Orienteering course that Mitch made.
This is Bryant and Jack playing Kubb.

My first Temple Trip
This is me at the Frankfurt Temple. Just three weeks after my 12th birthday, my new ward had a temple trip. I felt the Spirit really strongly. It was a feeling of peace and quiet. It was so cool to be baptized and confirmed. My Dad came and he was the one who baptized me.
The temple looks like three separate buildings that has a tall pillar in the middle with Moroni on top.

Playmobil Fun Park
| The Jones family invited us to the Playmobil Fun Park. It was so much fun. There were lots of places where we could play with Playmobil toys… which was one of my favorite parts – and I only got to play in one section. Luke and I played with the Safari toys for a very long time. There were big slides, a pirate ship with rafts that you could row around on, and a water spray area. That’s when I figured out how immodest German kids were. All the pictures here were taken in the castle. Katie is in the room of mirrors. Everyone was sad to leave. We only did half of the stuff there is to do there, so we have to go back. |

My Birthday
Matthew was just happy the whole time we bowled.
My dad beat me real bad... but I still had fun bowling with him.
Here's a shot of me bowling. I missed that one. Megan's ball took a long time getting down there.
After bowling we opened presents. I got new Super Mario Brothers Wii, a priesthood book by John Bytheway, squishy bowls for camping, a deck of cards with a book of card tricks and games, Goalie gloves, a big bag of Skittles, a German soccer ball, cribbage and Rook. I haven't played Cribbage yet but so far I love Rook.
After opening presents, we went to look at a house in St. Leon. We were only allowed to look at 3 houses, and we were really worried because we already looked at two and they were really bad. But luckily, this one was amazing. It has four floors, just like the other ones, and a cool attic that will be perfect for all the kids, a basement that has a room that could be the bonus room, a big kitchen and a cool family room that will be the perfect size for our big couch.
This is our house.
We took a stroll around our house past the fields.
This is part of the perfect attic.
We also went to the park. I love the park that's by our hotel. It has gigantic slides and I love going down them with Matthew or on my stomach.
It was a great awesome birthday.

Utah birthday party and flight to Germany
I haven't been blogging for so long because I've been having too much fun. For the past few weeks, we've been visiting family and playing with cousins. I had a birthday party with my grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. I got a Pokemon video game. I also got four awesome books, Alma the Younger, Out of Jerusalem 1 and 2, and a picture Dictionary on learning German. Last, I got my Aaronic Priesthood line in a picture frame. It goes like this... Ryan Christopher Johnson Christopher Shane Johnson (my dad) Delmar W Johnson (my grandpa) David Joseph Belcher Spencer Wooley Kimball Heber Jeddy Grant George Quayle Cannon Brigham Young Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, Martin Harris Joseph Smith Jr. Peter, James and John Jesus Christ My grandma Johnson printed it out and put it in a frame. I also got a pocket knife (finally) from my grandma and Grandpa Walton. Then we went on two planes ending up in Atlanta. We stayed there for a day. Then late at 6:20 we went into the air heading to Germany. It was a 9 hour flight but we got to Germany at 10:00am (German time). The 9 hour flight was not boring. There was a special TV where we could watch lots of cool movies. I played DS and watched Alice in Wonderland. It was really cool. You should see it. I also watched Planet 51. I only slept one hour one the plane. Once we got there, we got our baggage but it took a long time to figure out where the baggage claim was. Then we waited a few hours in the airport and finally we got to go on a one hour drive to the hotel where we're staying in now. |

Scout Campout
Me with my new backpack from Christmas. Katie wanted to try on my backpack.
We had an 11 year old scout campout in Brother Clark’s backyard. He is my scout leader- bottom right. First we set the tent up. Then we ate our sack dinner that we brought from home. After that we went to the store to buy our breakfast and lunch for the next day. That passed off some of my scout requirements. We played some games outside and jumped on their trampoline. Then we read the scriptures with him and then made smores. Most of them liked getting their marshmallows caught on fire before they ate them. But I don’t like it that way. After all that fun we went to bed.
I woke up in the morning and shortly after Jordan and Caden woke up. Then, once Dean woke up we started making our breakfast. Bacon and eggs – bottom left. Each scout made their own scrambled eggs. We had orange juice as well. Then we took a walk out into the woods doing several requirements along the way. Afterwards we went to the indoor pool on base to pass off some swimming requirements. I had to swim 75 feet straight. We also practiced saving people who were drowning. Then we went back and ate lunch and then got ready to go home. I had a great time. I can’t wait for March’s camp out.

Christmas
In the morning I was so excited. I noticed that Mom and Dad were really late. They had told us that they would come get us at 7:30. Finally at 8:00 they came to get us. It seemed like it took forever to get everyone in Mom and Dad’s room and get all the hair done but finally we were able to get into our Christmas line. We walked out and Luke ran to his train, which he already knew was there since he sneaked out of Mom’s room earlier. I was looking around but I could only see everyone elses. Then when I turned around I finally saw it. I got a backpack for camping with a sleeping bag and all. I was so happy because I was going to have a campout soon. In my stocking I got M&M’s, skittles, a Barnes & Noble gift card (which I used to buy a Fablehaven book) and more camping equipment.
Christmas breakfast was great but we only have it once a year so I savored it this morning. One of my favorite drinks is Eggnog but we only get to drink it at Christmas time.
I got a lot of other presents… I got Harry Potter 6, School House Rock songs, basketball clothes, a small basketball net, a keychain that says ‘No Empty Chairs”, a Zhu zhu pet, the Fablehaven Series, Toy Story Mania Wii game, the Kingdom Keepers series, book 9 and 10 of the Tennis Shoes series, a giftcard to Target, and a few other things.
I spent the afternoon playing trains with Luke, trying out my toy Story Mania Wii game, watching UP, and playing legos with Katie and Emily.

Halloween 2009
Halloween was great! We trick-or treated a lot. I loved being a pirate again. I was a pirate when I was about 4. Matt was the cutest pirate ever.
